The Manila clam (Venerupis philippinarum, also placed in the genus Ruditapes) is a small, sweet, fast-growing venus clam native to the Indo-Pacific and now the most widely farmed clam in the world. Plump and clean-tasting with a soft marine sweetness, it is the classic vongole of Italian pasta and the workhorse of clam aquaculture from China to the European lagoons.
