The mud crab (Scylla serrata) is a large, heavy-clawed swimming crab of Indo-Pacific mangroves and estuaries — also called the mangrove crab, green crab or, in Australia, the giant mud crab. Prized for its abundant sweet white meat and rich brown meat, it is one of the most valuable food crabs of tropical Asia and the Pacific, sold live and cooked whole in chilli, pepper and curry dishes.
