Xtabentún

Xtabentún is a Mexican anise-and-honey liqueur from the Yucatán Peninsula, usually bottled at about 30% ABV, sweet and aromatic, built on fermented honey and green anise (aniseed). Amber to pale-gold in the glass, it is the signature regional spirit of the Yucatán, drunk neat as a digestivo, poured over ice, added to coffee, or mixed into cocktails such as the Maya-inspired riffs on the margarita.

Xtabentún leads with a warm, floral honey sweetness laced with anise and liquorice, driven by anethole over a soft, rounded cane spirit. The texture is viscous and syrupy, the alcohol gently warming at around 30 percent ABV, and the finish is long, sweet and honeyed with a cooling aniseed aftertaste. Rounder and softer than drier anise spirits like ouzo, its honey base gives it a mead-like floral depth.
