Valpolicella is the everyday red of the hills north of Verona in Italy's Veneto, made from a blend led by the native Corvina grape alongside Rondinella and a little Molinara. In its classic form it is a light-to-medium bodied, pale ruby wine of bright sour cherry and red berry, high mouth-watering acidity and gentle, low tannin — fresh, juicy and supremely drinkable. The same vineyards also yield the region's famous concentrated wines made from dried grapes, the powerful sweet-to-dry Amarone and the sweet Recioto, and the popular Ripasso, a richer Valpolicella re-fermented on Amarone skins and nicknamed "baby Amarone."
