Toro

Toro is the powerful, sun-baked face of Tempranillo: a dense, deeply coloured red from the arid Duero valley of Castilla y León, made from the local biotype known as Tinta de Toro. Baked by fierce continental heat on poor sandy and stony soils — some of it grown on ancient, ungrafted, pre-phylloxera vines — it trades Rioja's mellow elegance for high alcohol, chewy tannin and brooding black-fruit, liquorice and dark-chocolate depth.
