Sauvignon Blanc is one of the world's great aromatic white grapes: a green-skinned variety that makes bracingly crisp, dry white wines bursting with high acidity and unmistakable green, herbaceous aromas. Its name comes from the French sauvage ("wild") and blanc ("white"), and it almost certainly arose in the Loire Valley and Bordeaux of France. From the flinty Sancerre of the Loire to the explosively pungent wines of Marlborough in New Zealand, it is the benchmark grape for zesty, refreshing, unoaked white wine.
