Morellino di Scansano

Morellino di Scansano is the warm, coastal, easy-going face of Sangiovese: a bright ruby red from the Maremma hills of southern Tuscany, where a sunny Mediterranean climate ripens the grape fully to give juicy black cherry and plum, soft supple tannins and a rounder, more approachable style than the firm, austere Sangiovese of inland Chianti or Montalcino. "Morellino" is simply the local name for Sangiovese around the hilltop town of Scansano, and the wine is built for earlier, generous drinking.
