Carmignano

Carmignano is Sangiovese with a Bordeaux accent: a savoury Tuscan red from the Montalbano hills just west of Florence, where the local Sangiovese is blended with a legally required splash of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The result keeps Sangiovese's sour-cherry-and-earth backbone and high acidity but gains a lift of blackcurrant, cedar and firmer structure from the "uve francesi" — a marriage that has been made here, uniquely and by law, for centuries.
