Brunello di Montalcino

Brunello di Montalcino is Tuscany's most powerful and age-worthy expression of Sangiovese: a 100 percent Sangiovese DOCG red from the warm hill town of Montalcino, given long oak and bottle ageing before release. Where the parent grape is medium-bodied and tart, Brunello is fuller, deeper and more brooding — black cherry, leather and violets over robust, ripe tannin built to age for decades. It is one of Italy's most famous and most expensive wines, and a benchmark for what Sangiovese can become from a single great site.
