White Port is the pale, lesser-known cousin of red Port: a fortified wine made from white Douro grapes in styles that run from crisp and dry to honeyed and very sweet. Fortified to roughly 19 to 22 percent alcohol like all Port, it is most often served well chilled — as an aperitif on its own or, in the Portuguese summer staple Porto Tonico, stretched long with tonic water over ice, a sprig of mint and a twist of lemon. Drier styles taste of citrus, orchard fruit and almond; sweeter and cask-aged ones turn nutty, waxy and honeyed.
