Central Otago Pinot Noir is the bold, sun-saturated New World face of a classically delicate grape: grown in the world's southernmost commercial wine region, on the rugged schist soils of New Zealand's South Island, it is deeper-coloured, riper and more concentrated than cool, ethereal Burgundy, leading with dark cherry and plum over wild thyme, dried herbs and a fine mineral grip. A continental climate of fierce sun and cold nights drives both its plush ripeness and its bracing acidity.
