Baden Spätburgunder is the ripe, sun-warmed face of Pinot Noir: a soft, red-fruited red from Germany's warmest and most southerly wine region, strung out along the Rhine in the country's deep south-west. Where cool Burgundy gives tautness and cool German Pinot gives raciness, Baden's warm climate and, in the Kaiserstuhl, volcanic soils coax a rounder, gently smoky, mild-tannined wine of ripe cherry and raspberry with earthy depth.
