Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains is the noble Muscat — the oldest and finest of the sprawling Muscat family and the grape that, more than any other, smells and tastes uncannily like the fresh grape itself. Its perfume is unmistakable: ripe muscat grapes, orange blossom, rose and honeysuckle, over peach, apricot and a musky, spicy lift that gives the whole family its name. Almost alone among wine grapes it can be vinified across the full sweetness spectrum — bone-dry Alsace whites, gently frothy Italian Moscato, richly sweet Southern French vins doux naturels — yet it always carries that same grapey signature. As a dry varietal it is light, low in alcohol, floral and refreshing; whatever the style, it is one of the most instantly recognisable flavours in all of wine.
