Barossa Mataro is the warm-climate, old-vine face of Mourvèdre: grown in the hot, dry heart of South Australia and known locally by its Catalan-derived name, Mataro, it turns the grape's savoury power up to full. Where cool coastal Bandol is taut and structural, Barossa fruit ripens deeply and reliably, giving a dense, generous red of dark plum and blackberry laced with earth, leather, cured meat and a chewy, earthy tannin.
