Moschofilero is Greece's most perfumed white grape and the star of the Mantinia appellation on the cool high plateau of Arcadia, in the central Peloponnese. Unusually, it is a pink- to grey-skinned grape that makes pale, aromatic white wines — and, from the same fruit, delicate rosés and sparkling versions. In the glass it is intensely floral, all rose petal and orange blossom, with lifted citrus, a whisper of Muscat-like spice and a bright, crisp, low-alcohol freshness. Light, fragrant and thirst-quenching, it is the aromatic, warm-weather face of Greek white wine, prized for matching everything from meze and seafood to spicy Asian cooking.
