Saint-Joseph Blanc is the fresher, granite-grown face of Marsanne: a full-but-lively white from the steep left bank of the Northern Rhône, where the grape (usually with a little Roussanne) grows on decomposed granite rather than the richer soils of the Hermitage hill just across the river. The result is a wine of white flowers, orchard fruit and toasted almond that keeps a brighter, more mineral line than the broader, waxier whites of Hermitage.
