Malagousia is a revived aromatic Greek white grape, rescued from near extinction in the 1970s to become one of the country's most celebrated modern varieties. It gives fragrant, full-flavoured whites that pack an intensely perfumed nose — ripe peach and nectarine, jasmine and orange blossom, citrus and a green herbal lift — over a rounded, generous palate balanced by fresh but not searing medium acidity. Aromatic yet dry, textured yet vibrant, it walks a line between the exotic perfume of a Viognier and the zestier freshness of a Mediterranean white. Once forgotten, it is now a flagship of the Greek wine revival and a benchmark for how much charm an almost-lost grape can offer.
