Szekszárd Kékfrankos is the warm, southern, velvety face of Hungary's flagship red grape: grown on deep loess in the sun-baked hills of Tolna, it trades the racy, high-acid sharpness of cooler northern Kékfrankos for a riper, rounder, more supple wine of dark cherry, ripe plum and a warm paprika-and-pepper spice. It is the backbone of the region's own Bikavér — one of only two "Bull's Blood" appellations in the country.
