Weinviertel is the zesty, peppery archetype of Grüner Veltliner: a bone-dry white from the vast rolling hills of north-eastern Lower Austria, grown mostly on deep loess, that turns the grape's white-pepper "Pfefferl" into a defining signature over green apple, radish and citrus. It was the home of Austria's very first DAC — the origin-guaranteed appellation launched with the 2002 vintage — and remains the country's benchmark for crisp, spicy, food-friendly everyday Grüner.
