Kamptal is one of the great Danube homes of Gruner Veltliner: a dry, food-loving white grown on deep loess and hard primary-rock gneiss along the river Kamp in Lower Austria. Compared with the leaner Wachau it tends to ripe, generous orchard fruit and a fuller, spicier body — peppery and savoury, with a lentil-like depth, yet held taut by zesty, mouth-watering acidity.
