Sierra de Gredos is the cool, high-altitude, granite face of Garnacha (Grenache): pale, perfumed and so light and fragrant it is routinely likened to Pinot Noir. Grown from old bush vines on the mountain slopes west of Madrid, it trades the warm, soft, high-alcohol generosity of lowland Grenache for bright red cherry and raspberry, wild mountain herbs, a floral, violet lift, fresh acidity and a cool, stony minerality drawn from decomposed granite.
