Colli Tortonesi Cortese is the eastern-Piedmont cousin of Gavi: a dry, unoaked white made entirely from the Cortese grape in the hills around Tortona, in the far east of the province of Alessandria near the Lombardy and Emilia borders. Grown on calcareous clay-marl slopes in a more continental, hill-country climate, it is taut and high in acidity, with lemon and green apple, white flowers, a clear stony minerality and a signature bitter-almond note on the finish.
