Beaujolais Nouveau is the ultra-young "primeur" face of Gamay: a vivid, purple-ruby red rushed from the granite hills of Beaujolais to the glass just weeks after harvest and released, by law, on the third Thursday of November. Made almost entirely by carbonic maceration, it is featherlight, all but tannin-free and bursting with grapey red berries, banana and bubblegum — a wine built for immediate, joyful, lightly chilled drinking rather than the cellar.
