Falanghina is an ancient white wine grape of southern Italy, grown above all in Campania around the Bay of Naples and the inland hills of Benevento. It yields a dry, light-to-medium-bodied white with bright, refreshing acidity and aromas of white flowers, citrus, green apple and stone fruit, often with a saline, mineral edge from the region's volcanic soils. Long overlooked and nearly lost, it was revived in the late twentieth century and is now Campania's signature white, the backbone of denominations such as Falanghina del Sannio and Campi Flegrei. It is widely drunk across the Italian south as an easy, food-friendly partner for seafood — crisp, floral and unoaked.
