Diano d'Alba is a hillside cru expression of Dolcetto from the steep, south-facing slopes just across the Tanaro from Alba, in the heart of Piedmont's Langhe. Grown on some of the grape's best-exposed sites, it is a slightly richer, riper, rounder Dolcetto than the everyday norm: juicy black cherry and dark berry fruit, a lift of violets, and gentle, well-rounded tannin, all closed by the variety's signature faintly bitter, almond-like twist. It became a DOCG in its own right in 2010, among the highest tiers of Dolcetto.
