Swartland Cinsaut is the grape reborn as a serious light red: a dry-farmed, old-bush-vine wine from the warm, sun-baked wheat country north of Cape Town that trades the grape's old bulk-blender reputation for translucent colour, crunchy red fruit, low tannin and a savoury, chillable freshness. Grown without irrigation on granite, schist and shale by a new generation of low-intervention winemakers, it has become a poster child for South Africa's old-vine revival.
