Swartland is the sunlit, old-vine face of Chenin Blanc: a dry South African white grown on decomposed granite and shale in a hot, dry corner of the Western Cape, where unirrigated bush vines yield a broad, textured wine of baked apple, yellow pear and honeyed stone fruit. Warmer and rounder than its cool Loire cousin, it trades searing austerity for a fuller, gently oaked, mineral-edged palate that still keeps fresh acidity.
