Piglio

Piglio is Lazio's serious red and its only red DOCG — a small zone in the hills about sixty kilometres south-east of Rome, on the flank of the Ernici mountains, where Cesanese makes a perfumed, medium-bodied wine of red cherry and wild strawberry over rose and violet, black pepper and sweet baking spice, with fresh acidity and moderate, silky tannin.
