Spirit
Scotch Whisky
Scotch whisky is malt and grain spirit distilled and matured wholly in Scotland, its single malt expression made at one distillery from nothing but malted barley, pot-distilled and aged at least three years in oak — from the peaty, smoky, maritime drams of Islay to the honeyed, fruity malts of Speyside.

Dry to faintly sweet, warming and complex, single malt Scotch leads with cereal malt and honey over oak, with orchard and dried-fruit depth and a nutty, spiced edge from the cask; the peated style of Islay adds a phenolic, medicinal, briny bonfire smoke that can dominate the glass. The texture is light and spirituous with a pronounced warming alcohol burn at around 40 percent and upward, and the finish is long, smoky and oaky, sometimes drying and tannic in older or sherried bottlings.
