The Surinam cherry (Eugenia uniflora), also called pitanga or Brazilian cherry, is a small, deeply ribbed tropical berry from a shrubby tree in the myrtle family (Myrtaceae), native to the Atlantic coast of South America. Brightly coloured and resinous-sweet with a tart, slightly spicy finish, it is eaten out of hand and made into juices, jams and chilled drinks across the tropics.
