The sugar apple, or sweetsop (Annona squamosa), is a small tropical fruit with a knobby, scaly green rind that splits open at ripeness to reveal soft, sweet, custard-like white pulp studded with black seeds. A member of the custard-apple family, it is eaten fresh by scooping the fragrant flesh with a spoon.
