The pineberry is the white strawberry — a small, pale, almost ghostly berry that ripens not to scarlet but to creamy white or the faintest blush pink, dotted all over with red rather than yellow seeds, so it looks like a strawberry photographed in negative. Its draw is the aroma: soft, sweet and unmistakably pineapple-like over a delicate wild-strawberry sweetness, which is where the marketing name pineberry comes from.
