Spanner crab

Ranina ranina · Seafood

The spanner crab (Ranina ranina) is a striking red-orange crab of warm Indo-Pacific sands, named for the flat, spanner- (wrench-) shaped claws that fold against its body. Its sweet, fine-grained white meat — lighter and more delicate than blue or mud crab — has made it a prized table crab in Australia and across East and South-East Asia.
