Southside

The Southside — also written South Side — is a classic gin sour built from London dry gin, fresh lemon (or lime) juice, simple syrup and a handful of mint leaves, shaken hard with ice and double-strained into a chilled cocktail glass. It is, in effect, a gin Mojito served up: bright and tart, lightly sweet, and lifted by the cool green fragrance of bruised mint. Pale and cloudy in the glass, it is one of the enduring minty gin sours of the early twentieth century, and is closely associated with New York's storied 21 Club. A clean, refreshing drink, it sits in the same daisy and sour family as the Gimlet and the Gin Sour.

22% ABV
A pale, faintly cloudy shaken sour of roughly 20 to 25 percent alcohol, tart-led and bright with fresh lemon or lime, balanced by simple syrup and run through with the cool green fragrance of bruised mint. The London dry gin gives a dry, juniper-and-botanical backbone that keeps the drink crisp; the whole is clean, herbal and refreshing, finishing dry on mint and citrus oils rather than sweet.
