The soncoya is a large, rough-skinned tropical fruit from the custard-apple family (Annonaceae), borne by the tree Annona purpurea of Mexico and Central America. Behind its forbidding, brown, spine-studded rind lies soft, fibrous, deep-orange pulp whose aroma and flavour recall ripe peach and mango.
