Spirit
Singani
Singani is Bolivia's national spirit, a clear grape brandy distilled from white Muscat of Alexandria grapes grown high in the Andean valleys around Tarija; a protected denomination of origin bottled at around 40 percent alcohol, it is aromatic, floral and delicate, closely related to Peruvian and Chilean pisco but marked by its own high-altitude Muscat character of orange blossom, grape and white flowers, and it is the base of the country's beloved Chuflay highball.

Dry, fragrant and smooth, Singani leads with the perfume of Muscat of Alexandria — orange blossom, jasmine and white flowers over ripe grape, citrus peel and lychee, with a delicate green-herbal lift. Being unaged it is clear and free of oak or caramel, lighter and more floral than Armagnac or Cognac and a close cousin of pisco. The texture is clean and lightly spirituous at around 40 percent alcohol, and the finish is bright, floral and grapey, warming but fresh, which is why it shines both neat and lengthened with ginger ale and lime in a Chuflay.
