The sapucaia nut, or paradise nut, is the oil-rich seed of Lecythis pisonis, a large Amazonian tree closely related to the Brazil nut. Creamy, buttery and notably sweet, it is widely held to be even richer and finer-flavoured than its famous cousin, and it grows inside a giant woody capsule — the "monkey pot" — that swings open at the bottom like a lidded urn to scatter its seeds.
