Liqueur
Sambuca
Sambuca is a sweet Italian anise-flavoured liqueur, usually bottled at about 38–42% ABV, intensely sugary and most often colourless (white), though dark (black) and other tinted versions exist. It is traditionally served "con la mosca" — "with the fly" — meaning with three coffee beans floating in the glass, and turns milky and cloudy when water or ice is added.

Intensely sweet and syrupy, sambuca leads with a powerful anise-and-liquorice aroma driven by anethole, layered over a clean, warming high-proof spirit and faint floral-herbal notes. The texture is viscous and rounded, the alcohol noticeably hot at around 38 to 42 percent ABV, and the finish is long, sweet and cooling, with a menthol-like liquorice aftertaste. Add water or ice and the clear liquid louches milky-white as the anise oils emulsify.
