Spiced Rum
Spiced rum is a sugarcane spirit steeped or blended with warm baking spices and flavourings — vanilla, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, allspice and orange peel chief among them — usually built on a young golden or aged rum and finished sweet, smooth and aromatic, the easy-drinking, dessert-spiced cousin of the rum family that made its name long with cola and in festive winter punches.

Sweet, smooth and aromatic, spiced rum leads with vanilla and cinnamon over clove, nutmeg and allspice, set against a base of brown sugar, caramel and warm molasses with a thread of ripe banana and citrus peel. The added sugar gives a soft, almost confectionery body and a rounded, gently warming finish at around 35 to 40 percent alcohol, less spirituous and more dessert-like than a plain golden rum, and built to bloom when mixed long with cola or ginger beer.
