The silver pomfret (Pampus argenteus) is a small, flat, almost disc-shaped silvery fish of the warm Indo-Pacific, one of the most prized food fishes from the Persian Gulf across India and Southeast Asia to China and Japan. Its tender, sweet, fine-grained white flesh and almost boneless fillets make it a luxury fish — fried whole, curried, or steamed — and among the most expensive everyday seafood on Indian and Gulf markets.
