The Fuyu is the squat, tomato-shaped, non-astringent persimmon — the everyday eating kind, sweet and crunchable straight off the tree like an apple. Flatter and rounder than the acorn-shaped Hachiya, it has glossy deep-orange skin, a low flat woody calyx, and pale-orange flesh that is mild, honeyed and free of the puckering tannin, so it can be eaten firm-crisp or left to soften. Sold in Britain and Israel under the trade name Sharon fruit, it is the persimmon most shoppers outside Asia now meet.
These cues are Persimmon's, and hold across its varieties; where this one differs, its own page says so.
