The pen shell is a large, fan- or wedge-shaped marine bivalve of the family Pinnidae (genera Pinna and Atrina), named for its resemblance to an old quill pen. Several species are eaten worldwide, prized for the sweet, scallop-like adductor muscle inside the shell.
