The Conference is Britain's everyday pear and the one most likely to be in the bowl — a long, narrow fruit drawn out to a slim tapering neck, its dull green skin overlaid with a warm bronze-brown russet that bands and freckles the surface. The flesh is pale cream, juicy and sweet with a slightly granular, melting texture, and the tree crops so reliably and stores so well that it has dominated UK and Low-Country orchards for well over a century.
