The Anjou (d'Anjou) is a plump, egg-shaped, nearly neckless winter pear — mild, sweet and refreshing, with firm, dense flesh. It is the great all-purpose pear, equally happy eaten out of hand or held in poaching liquid, and it owes its place on the winter supermarket shelf to exceptional storage life.
