The peanut butter fruit is a small, glossy orange-to-scarlet berry from tropical South America, the fruit of Bunchosia argentea, a shrub or small tree in the Malpighiaceae family. Its name comes from the dense, sticky, deep-orange pulp, whose flavour and texture are widely compared to peanut butter, fig jam or dried fruit paste rather than to any bright, juicy tropical fruit.
