Pangasius is a fast-growing, air-breathing river catfish of the Mekong (the striped catfish, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus, sold worldwide as basa, swai, tra or river cobbler) with pale, boneless, exceptionally mild white flesh and a soft, moist, faintly sweet texture. Farmed at enormous scale in Vietnam and exported frozen as a cheap, uniform, skinless fillet, it has become one of the most traded white fish on earth.
