Painkiller

The Painkiller is a creamy Caribbean rum cocktail built from dark rum, pineapple juice, orange juice and cream of coconut, shaken over ice and dusted with freshly grated nutmeg. It is a tiki classic born at the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands, and reads like a richer, more rum-forward cousin of the Pina Colada — golden, tropical and lush, with the coconut and pineapple softened by the spice of the nutmeg on top. The name is a registered trademark of Pusser's Rum, whose founder reverse-engineered the original recipe and built the brand around it. Served long over crushed ice, it is a beach drink at heart — sweet, smooth and deceptively strong.

A creamy golden tiki drink of roughly 12 to 16 percent alcohol, sweet and full-bodied, led by bright pineapple and orange fruit folded into the rich, milky body of cream of coconut. Dark rum runs underneath with molasses and a touch of oak, and a generous grating of fresh nutmeg lifts the surface with warm baking-spice aroma. It is smooth, lush and tropical, finishing sweet and creamy rather than sharp — and it hides its strength behind all that coconut and fruit.
