Okra seed is the small, round, pea-sized seed of the okra plant (Abelmoschus esculentus), the same mallow-family crop grown for its edible green pods. Left to mature and dry on the plant, the seeds are pressed for a mild edible oil or roasted and ground into a caffeine-free coffee substitute — a use quite distinct from eating the tender young pod as a vegetable.
