Negroni
The Negroni is the classic Italian bitter aperitivo — equal parts gin, Campari and sweet red vermouth, stirred over ice and served in a rocks glass with an orange garnish. Glowing red-orange and intensely bittersweet, it is the most famous of the Italian aperitivi, a stiff, bracing drink built to whet the appetite before a meal.

Pungent
Glowing red-orange, the Negroni smells of vivid bitter orange and aromatic Campari botanicals over the dry pine of gin and the herbal, faintly wine-like depth of sweet vermouth. On the palate it is intensely bittersweet — a rounding caramel sweetness from the liqueurs set against a bracing rhubarb-and-orange bitterness — with a pungent herbal lift, a whisper of woody spice and a strong, dry, lingering bitter finish at around 24 percent alcohol in the glass.
