Naked & Famous

The Naked & Famous is a modern classic sour — equal parts mezcal, yellow Chartreuse, Aperol and fresh lime juice, shaken hard with ice and strained up into a chilled coupe. Smoky, bittersweet, herbal and tart, it is a mezcal reworking of the Last Word and the Paper Plane that has become one of the most-poured drinks of the modern cocktail revival.

Pale amber-orange and hazy, the Naked & Famous smells of campfire mezcal smoke and mineral agave over the honeyed, saffron-tinged herbs of yellow Chartreuse, with bitter-orange Aperol and a bright zing of fresh lime. On the palate it is smoky, herbal and bittersweet, drawn taut by sharp lime acidity — the sweetness of the two liqueurs set against gentle rhubarb bitterness and that unmistakable roasted-agave smoke, finishing dry, tart and lingering at around 23 percent alcohol in the glass.
